Agnee: A Contemporary Rock Band From India
New Delhi, 24
November: Agnee is the first Indian rock band to have seen a
celebrated main stream release, with as many as 5 videos released from the
same album.(first ever in India)
Their debut album
titled Agnee was launched on May 15, 2007, and soon they became 'the new
face of Indi-Rock'. They released their first album "Agnee" through Sony
BMG and the album had huge hits including Sadho Re, Shaam Tanha and the
MTV Roadies Theme Song. Agnee also composed music for the film "Dil Dosti
etc." as Music Directors.
Agnee started this
year with the release of the melodious ‘Splitsvilla Theme Song’, which has
gone on to become their biggest hit ever, with over 30 videos on YouTube
dedicated to it and over 10 lakh views. This song was composed as a part
of their new venture ‘Create with Agnee’, that aims to inspire and
discover musical souls and involve them in as many aspects of the creation
of their music as possible.
Agnee, as the name
suggests is a band full of life and energy and creates musical fireworks
everywhere they are present. The band members are all individually well
known for their stage presence and for their virtuoso performances, making
each show different and memorable. The melodic content of the songs ensure
that the audience always has something to hum when they go back home.
Lead vocalist of the
band, Mohan’s primary musical instrument is the Mridangam. He’s from a
family of Carnatic classical musicians, so music’s pretty much a way of
life! Mohan’s forte is the way he manages to combine his understanding of
melody and rhythm together to create his own unique style, both in
compositions as well as on stage.
The lead guitarist
of the band, Koko’s sound is one that has inspired musicians all over
India to take up the guitar. He’s been traditionally known for his rock
and blues sound, combined with a core Indian sensibility and
understanding. Now he incorporates various other styles of playing,
including finger picking, jazz, funk and a lot of acoustic playing with
equal panache, giving the band a wider musical range. Koko also endorses
Paul Reed Smith Guitars.
Clinical
Psychologist, Music Therapist and Musician, Varun aims to reach out to as
many people as possible with the concept of universality of rhythm and
through Agnee, expresses himself musically with his holistic approach
towards percussion and rhythm. He has been playing the drums for as long
as he can remember and teaches drums and percussion for over 5 years and
counting.
Rushad is known for
his characteristic improvisational harmonic abilities, sound funk pocket
playing, slapping, snapping, popping and altogether grooving. Rushad was a
part of Agnee during the launch in 2007 and then left for Canada where he
toured with Canadian Pop Rock outfit QED and is now back to rejoin his
family.
The busiest musician
in the band, playing, on an average, eight shows a week, Michael comes
from Goa and loves nothing more than lying on the beach with his fenny and
an acoustic guitar; which is what he does in Agnee (minus the fenny of
course) Michael was a part of Ezee Meat and is now a part of Strange Brew
and doesn’t remember the last day he went without singing, playing or
teaching music.
